Here's the deal. I'm over at my friends house and he downloaded SF onto his comp. He has version rc6 and it is set to nexus.game-server.cc the same as my laptop. But everytime you hit play on the internet it says contacting nexus........recieving leaderboard data and stats.............and then it says nexus reports no servers out there. The leaderboard stats never come up either. I have my laptop with sat-link and I am connecting just fine.....shows the stats and server as well. My question is : Is there a certain connectivity speed you need to play online? His connection is a regular 28.8 phone-line connection. Before I got my laptop I was playing on a 28.8 connection just fine. Has something changed? I checked the firewall settings as well and Frontier as full allowed access to the net. I even disabled the firewall and tried but it says the same thing.... I can't figure it out. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Okay, I just went through the 1hr and 10 minute process of reinstalling SF on his comp and still have the same problem. Nothing has changed. Can't figure this out....

Woah, an hour and ten minutes to install SF? That's some hunk of junk your friend has, no offense. That being said I don't know. People have played using slow dial-up connections just fine so unless SFServer recently changed SFDC Nexus settings it shouldn't be a problem. Which installer did you use? It's possible you downloaded a somewhat broken installer. Use the one at www.stardock.com/products/sf/download.html (select the Windows version). An added advantage is it comes with SF v. 1.2 rc5, rc6, and rc7; it doesn't just have rc6. rc5 has the distinct advantage of easy Qparking and the capability of resyncing in Q. Other suggestions include looking at his firewalls/antivirus programs. Or maybe his Internet network settings. There may be a setting that blocks Stellar Frontier from using the necessary port to run the game. For example, at school I cannot play SF on the Internet even though we have a really freaking fast connection (either T1 or fiber optic) - faster than my cable at home.

Yeah, I haven't heard any problems with slow internet not finding the nexus.
However, to Albert, I have to say that if you have the files and they say 1.2rc6 (or whatever number) that you don't need to go to the stardock site.
Make sure that the server window has the exact SFDC Nexus. If you know how try and change his server to host on SFDC also and see. Yes of course make sure that the game Should be connecting to the internet. Other than that it would be a problem with the computer and I don't have enough understanding on what kind of problem it is so I wouldn't know where to start trying to figure it out.

That he used an installer that was partially broken and didn't install SF 100% right is not outside the realm of possibility - there are a myriad of different SF installers floating around the various download sites. I am sorry if I implied that he had to reinstall SF using the Stardock download. Thanks for clarifying.

I used the installer at stardock.com and I checked all the firewall and internet connection settings. I couldn't figure it out and neither can he. I just told him to throw the damn thing away and buy a new comp.
