Everyone knows SF is dead, but at least try to keep the forums alive. Change the forum topic from SF to something else maybe another game, maybe politics, maybe scifi. You have to do something cause your losing people.

Who ever the SFWebmaster is should kick the guy above me for using the term. Anyways. I check in multiple times DAILY. It gets banned the first time I see it. You don't need to keep commenting on them.

Yes its been said they are Asian commercials. That's what makes it worse. How do you block a rotating IP address that is just literally spam in English?

an ip adress is not the only way to recognize acomputer, it's just a well-known way. Other than ip adresses, there is the subnet mask and the deafult gateway, too.

^ : Obviously someone in thier mid teens to use such a stupid insult.
You know, how about removing the Guests from posting and have a review required registration? Then they can't hide behind their cowardly guest names. *DUH! 8P * It's not like we get a thousand new joiners a week.

Some people are very Internet-illiterate, ATC... to force them to join would be like hacking their right arm off. Seriously, though, I'm sure that was just someone with a little too much time on his/her hands... not much that can be done about it.

I'm not going to make registration required because that would limit a significant portion of people who just want to check in. Or just don't log on until they see if there is something for them to say.
In any case there are areas that can't be posted by guests but we can ban people who deserve it. Ban IPs or whatever. And for the most part while a small portion of guests post random and useless crap they aren't saying anything that get them banned. The spammers, well they don't count.

I'm not going to make registration required because that would limit a significant portion of people who just want to check in. Or just don't log on until they see if there is something for them to say.. What? All nine or so of them? Since I'm all set to sound like a jerk, here it comes at full blunt trauma force... SIN gets next to no real activity. I'm pretty sure 99% of SIN's activity are common users or old SF players, all of which fall into the 'I can actually follow instructions' catagory. Registration does not BLIND the guests from reading. There are options for that, and if there aren't, this board software is out of date. The argument that internet illiteracy would cause problems is a complete farce. My mother is a total computer illiterate that more often would crash a computer half the time and whine to me about it than anything, and even SHE can fill out a forum registration form, follow the instructions to check her email, and log in. This is not database initialization, javascript, or PHP configuration. This is a handheld registration sign-up form designed to be understandable by the lowest common denominator capable of reading English. Difficulty claims and inconvenience shouts do not hold enough water to drown an ant. Even an uncontrolled user registration for being allowed to post would do well to stop these guest spams. (As these are 'crimes of oppertunity'.) I find them quite annoying, and I'm sure you'd rather not have to sigh to yourself at the stupidity of some people while you go about a routine deletion of the post and flip through to ban them. Having registration would be 'just enough of a hassle' that spam messages coming from people who are claiming names such as 'fuck off' with messages of "homo" would not bother. For those who register. Not only do you have their IP, but they have to use a valid email address to confirm it, which allows you to more accurately track them if they turn out to be an abuser. That is, unless it's a puppet email address... And I highly doubt many are willing to go through that many registration processes just to post an offensive message on the board. And for any and all arguments about not having the time to deal with the hassles or other measures? If you don't have the minute or two it takes to deal with the hassles of logging in... you definately don't have the time to actually sit down and read the forum, comment intelligently, etc. Go do whatever it is that is pressing your time so bad and come back when you have time to log in and converse intelligently like the rest of us. We will both benifit from this and you will be happy I chewed you out. You can't seriously think to defend guest posting when the only real use it's been has been as an excuse to be extra lazy and for people to be offensive without having to 'show their face' in a virtual sense. There's also this thing about your own computer. It can remember passwords, and cookies can remember site configurations... I haven't logged in since the first time I logged into this forum after I reinstalled my operating system. This is not rocket science.
